Practica Foundation is pleased to announce a series of onsite practical trainings on the topic of small-scale Solar Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS) to take place in Chókwè, Mozambique. We specifically invite technicians designing and installing these SI systems to participate in this course. In total three 5-days trainings will be given and will take place between April and October 2022.

In this pilot - in collaboration with project Maji - a small modular piped network of water kiosks was constructed. The hardware was optimized based on multiple years of field data and was fitted with a novel mechanical prepaid device called the TokenTap. This paper describes the rationale behind the design and approach, the field findings and a financial comparison of the system with a single water kiosk approach.

Résumé : Avec la baisse du coût des panneaux photovoltaïques le pompage solaire devient une solution prometteuse pour la petite irrigation privée. Des pompes solaires portables et faciles à installer pour l’irrigation de surfaces inférieures à 0,5 ha, émergent sur le marché Est et Ouest africain : SF2 & SE1 (Futurepump), SP2-100 (Lorentz), Sunlight (Ennos/Jain), Rainmaker (Sunculture).

Pour de nombreux petits exploitants le pompage solaire est la seule option efficace lorsque l’exhaure est manuelle ou la profondeur de l’eau supérieure à 10 m .

La finance digitale PAYGO (crédit-bail) offert par les fournisseurs et le paiement mobile contribuent au financement de l’achat de la pompe solaire dont le coût reste hors de portée des petits exploitants. La subvention associée au PAYGO semble inévitable au développement durable de la chaine d’approvisionnement, et l’absence d’offre de crédit du secteur de la microfinance et des banques
