There is a strong belief that pre-paid solutions make water delivery expensive and inaccessible for poor target groups. The frequently used electronic technology for pre-payment entails a large capital investment (often covering ⅓ of the total water system investment) and higher operational costs. It also requires experienced electricians and rather unique spare parts for maintenance which are rarely available in remote rural areas.
PRACTICA likes to prove that affordable pre-paid systems are possible. Our latest technological development, the TokenTap, consists of a coin-based, mechanical prepayment water dispenser with a simple monitoring device. It is robust and easy to repair. This stand-alone device allows water service providers to efficiently generate water revenues to cover operation & maintenance costs while also being able to track the water sales remotely.
