WaterCompass

WaterCompass is an online decision-support tool that contains almost seventy water management methods applicable in asset-poor, developing region contexts. Grouped from source protection to household water treatment and storage, these methods comprise the current best practices.

The online WaterCompass tool.

You can use the tool as a simple overview of technologies, and also as a decision-support tool for the selection of suitable water supply technologies for a real setting. The user can select characteristics of a particular location, for example the accessibility, urban/rural, intended water use, water table depth, and known contaminants. Based on these choices, suitable and compatible technologies are displayed.

For each technology, the WaterCompass contains short multidiciplinary information on the relevant financial, institutional, environmental, technical and social aspects of the technology. The summaries offer concise information with specific web links and definitions where applicable. A PDF document can be created with a list of selected technologies.

Our aim has been to create a tool that is useful during initial exploration of options and will help improve the quality of decisions and stakeholder discussions.
