Rehabilitation of impluvia with PVC liner

In the south of Madagascar the aquifer has a high salinity level. Storage of rain water in underground water catchment basins (impluvia) is the main practice to get fresh water. To rehabilitate the impluvia PRACTICA has tested a method using local PVC liner. The results are successful.

  • The main objective is to improve access to water for the population of 5 villages through the rehabilitation of impluvia.

  • 5 impluvia rehabilitated by using thermo welded PVC liner
  • Total water storage of 495 m3
  • 4537 beneficiaries having access to improved water during 4 months
  • 5 local enterprises trained
  • 2 kits of rehabilitation tools returned to CRS and GRET (local partners)
  • 9 water management committees trained
