Manual drilling in Mauritania

PRACTICA has worked with UNICEF on the introduction of manual drilling techniques for sustainable and equitable access to drinking water in Mauritania. The project partners and stakeholders confirm the value of continuing to carry out manual drilling in the Senegal River Valley and extending the tests to uncovered areas with interesting potential, considering the lessons learned from the pilot phase and consolidating the achievements.

Forage manuel en Mauritanie

PRACTICA a travaillé avec UNICEF sur l’introduction de techniques de forage manuel pour un accès durable et équitable à l’eau potable en Mauritanie. Les partenaires du projet et les parties prenantes confirment l’intérêt de poursuivre le forage manuel dans la vallée du fleuve Sénégal et d’étendre les tests aux zones non couvertes présentant un potentiel intéressant, compte tenu des enseignements tirés de la phase pilote et de la consolidation des acquis.

Goals

  • Strengthen the capacity of national partners (Ministry of Water and Regional Directorates), implementation partners and UNICEF, involved in the implementation and monitoring of manual drilling techniques
  • Strengthen the capacity of the private sector operating in the manual drilling sector in order to guarantee the quality of the works
  • Test and evaluate the drilling techniques used and their feasibility in presumed favourable areas
  • Learning from the pilot phase and developing a scaling-up strategy

Objectifs

  • Renforcer les capacités des partenaires nationaux (Ministère de l’Eau et Directions régionales), des partenaires de mise en œuvre et de l’UNICEF, impliqués dans la mise en œuvre et le suivi des techniques de forage manuel
  • Renforcer la capacité du secteur privé opérant dans le secteur du forage manuel afin de garantir la qualité des travaux
  • Tester et évaluer les techniques de forage utilisées et leur faisabilité dans des zones présumées favorables
  • Tirer les enseignements de la phase pilote et élaborer une stratégie de mise à l’échelle

  • Project management for control of the works and compliance with technical clauses
  • Implementation of accompanying measures for the management of the water point
