Assessment of the UNICEF / PRACTICA partnership on the professionalization of manual drilling in West Africa

Over the past five years, PRACTICA has supported the professionalization of manual drilling in several UNICEF WASH programs in West Africa.
There are many lessons learned enriched by the difficulties and successes encountered in different contexts. The two partners propose to take stock and assess these experiences to draw lessons and recommendations for ongoing and future actions for the professionalization of manual drilling, and to improve the effectiveness of the UNICEF / PRACTICA partnership with partners.
These results will be summarized through a desk study that will also integrate an evaluation of the UNICEF / PRACTICA partnership through an opinion survey of partners in the different country programs.

Goals

The objective of the study is to take stock of the UNICEF / PRACTICA partnership and to carry out a comparative analysis on the progress of the professionalization of manual drilling in the UNICEF WASH programs in Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia, Mali and Mauritania.
The area explored are:
– Implementation strategy and institutional partnership
– Results of drilling, data management and suitable areas for manual drilling
– Effectiveness and capacity building process of private sector
– Quality of construction and control mechanism
– Manual drilling market analysis and current state of professionalization progress

Activities

Take stock of the results achieved
Identify best practices and constraints for their implementation and dissemination
Draw lessons and recommendations for individual countries for ongoing and future actions
